How to Pick Great Cornhole Boards

Picking out a cornhole set shouldn’t be overly complicated. You know that you want something that looks good and is well-made. The hardest part of picking one is probably choosing what you want it to look like.

Take a quick look at these tips to help you pick out great cornhole boards.

Board Sizes

Cornhole boards come in different sizes. If you plan to play cornhole as a sport or for friendly gatherings, you probably need the standard-sized board.

Tailgating-sized cornhole boards can be a lot of fun to use on the go. They are made to be slightly smaller and portable.

Regulation sizing for a cornhole board is 2 feet wide by 4 feet long. This is the most common size available.

Board Materials

According to the American Cornhole Association (ACA), plywood is the material of choice, although other materials can be used.

Why plywood? The main reason for using plywood is that the force behind a toss might cause your beanbags to bounce. Plywood, or another sturdy wood material, will reduce that bounce upon impact.

PVC is an alternative material that might be suitable if wood is not an option. PVC won’t reduce the impact bounce as much as wood, but it can be a more affordable solution.

Design Features

Cornhole boards don’t have to be fancy. However, adding a design to your board gives it more of a personal touch. Your cornhole board can be customized just about any way that you want it to be.

If you like patriotic symbols, you can have those added. If you like a specific sports team, your board can reflect that. And if you like scenery or other types of customization, your board can match those options, too.

Figure out your design or basic inspiration, then work with a custom cornhole board company to bring your board to life.

The Bags

Not all cornhole sets will come with bags, but most of them do.

Cornhole bags used to be filled with dried corn. However, now many of them are filled with plastic resin beads or other materials. Either style will work just fine for the game, so it just comes down to your personal preference.

If your cornhole set comes with bags that you don’t like, you can also purchase different bags to use.

Regulation-sized bags are 6 inches square and weigh approximately 15-16 ounces.

Make It Fun

When you’re picking out your cornhole board, just make it fun. Choose a design and style that sticks out to you and run with it.

You might even decide to really spice it up and add a lighting kit or LED lights to your board for a little extra fun!
